BELMONT, N.C. -- The president of Belmont Abbey College is calling President Barack Obama's contraceptive compromise disingenuous and fake. Dr. Bill Theirfelder said the college will continue to move forward with its lawsuit.
During a press conference Friday, Obama said his new plan will make insurance companies responsible for providing contraceptive coverage and not religious organizations.
Thierfelder said the original contraceptive mandate took away the college's religious freedom. He said the compromise seems disingenuous and fake.
“The president didn't have a right to take away our religious freedom anyway,” said Thierfelder. “You can't give back what you didn't have a right to take way in the first place.”
Thierfelder said the college's case against the government continues to be delayed.
He said he will appear before a House committee on Thursday to address the issue.
