CHARLOTTE -- UNC Charlotte continues to transform its campus. Thursday the university broke ground on its Partnership, Outreach and Research to Accelerate Learning building, or PORTAL.

The $37 million project is the latest addition to UNCC's Charlotte Research Institute, which serves as a partnership between the school and the business community. When finished, the PORTAL building will house multiple research and development teams, as well as UNCC's Ben Craig Center.

The new facility is scheduled to open by late 2013 or early 2014.
