WINSTON-SALEM -- Salvation Army leaders are celebrating after an anonymous donor dropped more than just money inside one of their red kettles. On Friday, someone put a diamond ring wrapped in a $20 bill inside the kettle outside a K&W restaurant in Winston-Salem.
The only thing attached to it was a note that said, "It's real! In loving memory of Benny and Phyllis." The ring appraised at a local jewelry shop for $3,500.
Salvation Army Maj. Kent Davis said the anonymous donation will have a real impact on someone's Christmas this year.
"Whatever their story is, I wish you a heartfelt Merry Christmas," he said. "Please know with that gift, lives will be changed and receive hope."
Salvation Army leaders still have not reached their goal for this year's red kettle campaign and are hoping you continue to donate.
