WILMINGTON—A major motion picture has decides to set up shop in North Carolina.

"Iron Man 3 will be made here in Wilmington, North Carolina," said Gov. Bev Perdue at a news conference at EUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington on Thursday.

The rumor was finally put to rest, the state landed what is set to be the largest movie ever shot in the state. Marvel Studios production of Iron Man 3 will shoot at EUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington. According to the governor, the production of the movie will bring more than 500 jobs, 1,000 talent opportunities, and $80 million to the local economy.

Gov. Perdue and film officials credit the state's 25 percent film incentive, production facilities and the local experienced crew base for this big win.

"This is the hottest movie franchise in the country and perhaps around the world right now and my friends this was a competitive process," said Perdue.

Film officials said production executives considered shooting the movie in Los Angeles, Michigan, and New Mexico.

"A lot of folks will be working next year because of this project, this will keep the industry relevant in the eyes of Hollywood and that's critical," said Chris Cooney, Co-owner and COO of EUE/Screen Gems Studios.

Now that Wilmington has been chosen, those who work in the industry are not the only ones celebrating. The local businesses are as well. Realtor Jim Bitto said he often rents condos along Water Street in downtown Wilmington to cast and crew members.

"They come and rent our units for months at a time so it's certainly good for our business," said Bitto.

The motion picture move into their offices early next year and the movie is expected to be released in 2013.
