KANNAPOLIS — It is common for walks or runs that benefit an organization every weekend across the area this time of year.

A new was held Saturday in Kannapolis at the N.C. Research Campus called a Nutrithon. The event was organized by the Kannapolis rotary and is sponsored by Dole Foods and CMC northeast.

The races included a 5k, an 8k, and a duathlon, which consists of a 5k run, a 25k bike ride, and a 3k run, all in the research campus and surrounding area. Organizers expect approximately 250 participants to take part in the event.

Organizers expect the event will be an annual one for the next five years as they hope to raise at least $500,000 to construct a rotary house in Kannapolis to house students and interns.
