A woman was shot and killed Friday afternoon outside Mary Scroggs Elementary School. Police have a suspect in custody – Ali Cherfaou of Carrboro. Investigators said they believe Cherfaou said and killed Chahnaz Kebaier as part of an ongoing domestic dispute. The shooting happened while school was in session – a fact that caused concern for parents.

Still no verdict after six days of jury deliberations. Judge Catherine Eagles said all legal counsel and the defendant, John Edwards, could be excused from the courthouse during deliberations. So while 12 men and women decide the fate for Edwards and the six charges brought against him, Edwards was caught on camera just down the street at a baseball game.

The last few public pools are ready to open their gates just in time for the holiday weekend. This comes after inspectors across the state made their final marks to approve the readiness of the facilities. They're working to make sure more than 1,500 pools across the Triangle are ready to open their gates for some pool time fun.

The judge in the John Edwards trial says she is dealing with a juror issue and she is warning the panel not to deliberate outside the jury room or in small groups. U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Eagles dismissed the panel until Tuesday after its sixth day of deliberations.

Greensboro Police say thieves have stolen dozens of new tires and rims off trucks at a half-dozen commercial trucking companies. The thefts started in February and since that time over a half dozen commercial truck companies have been hit.

Three lanes of Interstate 85 southbound were reopened after downed power lines closed the entire roadway for a short time Friday afternoon near Freedom Drive. All but the far right lane are now open to traffic. There's no word on the cause of the fallen power lines.

Insurance industry evaluators were in Greensboro on Friday taking a closer look at how well the fire department puts out fires. The group gives ratings to departments throughout the U.S. Only about 1 percent of the fire departments, including Greensboro, have the highest rating with the insurance services office.

A former Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting six women while on duty is being released from prison Friday. Marcus Jackson was sentenced to two years behind bars in 2010. He'll have to register as a sex offender.
