EL PASO, Texas – Television icon Sherman Hemsley died Tuesday at his home in El Paso, Texas. He was best known for playing George Jefferson on "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons."

Hemsley was discovered on Broadway and also starred in another hit series "Amen." He was 74 years old. There's no word yet on the cause of death.
