RALEIGH – Students from across the state tried their hand at building water towers Saturday night in Raleigh. The event was part of the third annual Model Tower Competition.
Each individual team built a model that would hold at least a gallon of water and stand in a 12-inch square. Judges scored the teams on five categories.
"I think it really gives kids ownership and some problem-solving skills that are really important whether or not they become engineers," said event coordinator Maggie Hennessy.
"This was a pretty interesting experience. We also learned much more about how a water tower works,"eighth-grader Matt Fullerton said.
The top three finishers received cash rewards.
