RAEFORD, N.C. -- The 61st Stonybrook Steeplechase took place Saturday at Carolina Horse Park.

The annual horse race draws thousands of people from across the state. From the horses to the party hats, many view the race as the unofficial kickoff to the spring season.

"It's a wonderful event. We love seeing the horses, the beauty of the horses, and socializing with friends. We have a group that comes together every year to come out here and we just love the atmosphere," said Fayetteville resident Julia Warfel.

In addition to the five horse races, there was also a 5K run in the morning as well as an Easter egg hunt.
