WINSTON-SALEM -- Students put science, technology and teamwork skills to the test Saturday. More than 200 students competed in the Invitational Robot Run tournament in Forsyth County.

For weeks, they researched and built robots able to pick up and move items across a table. The groups are among more than 7,000 teams from more than 50 countries participating in the first Lego League Robotics Competition. The event challenges students to put science, technology, engineering and math skills to use to solve problems.

Time Warner Cable's Connect a Million Minds initiative helped sponsor the event. Time Warner Cable is the parent company of News 14 Carolina.
