WINSTON-SALEM — A lifelong dream came true on Veterans Day for a Wake Forest chaplain.
Rabbi Michael Gisser was sworn in as an Army reserve Chaplain after being inspired by his father, a holocaust survivor who was rescued by U.S. soldiers. Gisser became a U.S. citizen two years ago and said joining the Army reserve was the next step in giving back to the country he loves so much.
"My father weighed 45 pounds and was 21-years-old when he was rescued,” said Rabbi Gisser. “If it weren't for the soldiers rescuing him, my father wouldn't be here. and i wouldn't be here."
Rabbi Gisser was surrounded by a close group of family, friends, and students as he was sworn in.
