LEXINGTON, N.C. – There's good news for a Davidson County city that's been struggling to get back on its feet after several furniture companies left the area.

The state just awarded the Hilltop Apartments housing project more than $387,000 in tax credits to make much needed renovations. The project will begin in early spring of 2012, and is expected to create 22 construction jobs.

"Projects just like this are key in rebuilding our local economy in light of what's happened during the recession," said Lexington Director of Community Development Tammy Kepley.

The apartments are home to low-income seniors and those who are disabled.

The tax credits will go toward nearly $5 million in renovations.
