GREENSBORO -- Hundreds of eager job seekers lined up at the Clarion Hotel bright and early hoping Tuesday's job fair would be the answer to their prayers.
More than 50 companies came out looking to fill hundreds of positions across the Triad. Organizers said this was one of the largest job fairs they've held in the last two years.
Dr. Andrea Peoples-Marwah is one of the lucky ones. She has a job but she's looking for opportunities to move up and that hasn't been easy.
“The higher your degrees go, the more overqualified you are and, unfortunately, some people, I guess, companies don't feel they can invest a lot of time with people who have a higher degree because they may feel your coming in to take their positions away from them,” she said.
But recruiters say it's personality they're looking for. And with the unemployment rate hovering at 9.8 percent, there's no shortage of potential employees.
“The individual we are looking for can walk the talk, that has initiative, that's results driven, energetic those are the types of individuals we're looking for, people that have that sense of urgency and high energy caliber,” CVS Pharmacy district manager John Fratamico said.
Joe Fagan, with the Employment Guide said this fair shows a sign of improvement during some tough times.
“What's great about this is that we're seeing, not only are these companies coming out and hiring before the economy has fully recovered, but the most important part of that message is they're expecting it to recover, they're expecting more business to come in. They're hiring more sales people, they're hiring different departments,” he said.
Organizers say about 1,200 job seekers came out to the Greensboro job fair, they'll hold another in Winston-Salem in November.
